The beefy big 8-inch woofer of the RC80i makes a big beastly impact, with the maximum amount of bass you’re likely to encounter from an in-ceiling speaker. The RC80i is perfect for areas requiring big, rich sound with good coverage, but with no room for traditional speaker clutter. The Polk Audio RC80i In-Ceiling Speakers feature a two-way design that combines a 1″ Tweeter and a 8″ Woofer Dome. Combined with the crossover, this ensures a full-range listening experience with the tweeter driving the high-frequency range and the woofer driving the mid-range frequencies.
As the speaker features a beastly 8″ woofer, the RC80i provides the most amount of bass production possible from a ceiling speaker, offering a big punchy sound perfect for movies and gaming, as well as music playback. Becuase of the size, it also offers a wide spread of sound offering a great listening experience wherever it’s placed.
- Dynamic Balance Technology: Dynamic Balance drivers are used for wide, smooth response and low distortion.
- Woofers: Each speaker features an 8″ Dynamic Balance, mineral-filled polypropylene woofer for clean midrange and deep, accurate bass. For a smoother response and improved durability, each woofer uses a rubber surround.
- Tweeters: Each speaker uses a 1″ Dynamic Balance, metalized soft dome tweeter in a ball-and-socket swivel mount. The aimable tweeters give you direct high-frequency control, resulting in excellent imaging even for off-axis listening positions.
- Infinite Baffle Tuning: Infinite Baffle Tuning uses the virtual enclosure of in-wall space for superior bass response.
- Moisture-resistant: Durable, moisture-resistant materials allow you to install the speakers in bathrooms, kitchens, even under the eaves of an enclosed porch. (The speaker is not recommended for exposed outdoor use.)
- Installation: The round shape and flush-design allow the RC80i to mimic the look of a recessed lighting fixture. Each speaker requires a cutout of 9.375″ and a mounting depth of 3.25″. Each speaker frame has a diameter of 10.685″. Once the holes are cut, each speaker can be dropped in and the Rotating Cams can be tightened, allowing you to secure each speaker to the drywall without any extra assembly (the Rotating Cams protrude out 0.625″ from the cutout opening). If you will not be mounting these speakers in drywall, make sure the wall or ceiling material can safely support the weight of the speakers before installation; each speaker weighs approximately 4.5 pounds.
